Cocktail Green Pea Samosas

Cocktail samosas with green peas stuffing is definitely a snack that will linger your taste buds. These tiny tasty bites are stuffed with spicy and tasty fresh green peas. This snack makes a great appetizer to give a kick start for the day or to spruce up a lazy evening. Well, whether you wish to have it with your evening tea or want to keep an add-on with your breakfast, you will certainly drool over its taste. Just serve hot with tamarind dip or fresh coriander dip!

Recipe For Cocktail Green Peas Samosa

Serves 6

Preparation time: 15 minutes

Time for cooking: 30 minutes.

For the covering

  • 1 medium cup APF (All Purpose Flour)
  • 2 tablespoons edible oil
  • 1 tablespoon fine semolina
  • 1/4th teaspoon salt
  • 1/3rd cup warm water

For the stuffing

  • 2 cups green peas (par boiled)/frozen green peas
  • 3 teaspoons dry coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon chaat masala powder
  • I teaspoon mango powder
  • 3/4th teaspoon salt or as per your taste
  • 1/4th teaspoon garam masala
  • 2 tablespoons of edible oil


For the dough (covering)

Mix all purpose flour, semolina, oil, salt and warm water in a mixing bowl. Knead it into a soft and elastic dough. You may add some water if required. Now cover this dough with a soft towel and let it rest for approximately 10 minutes. Till then, make the filling.

For the stuffing

Boil the fresh green peas in some water till tender, or if you are using frozen green peas, you need to keep it in hot water for 10 minutes.

Now drain the entire water properly and leave it open to dry. Now mix coriander, coriander powder, red chili powder, dry mango powder, garam masala and salt to the peas. Take a pan and add some edible oil.  Heat it and put the green peas mixture in it. Mix it well and mash the peas as you stir fry the mixture. Keep it on low to medium flame till the entire moisture in the mixture is evaporated, not powdered though. This process will take not more than 12-15 minutes. Turn off the gas stove and let the stuffing cool down to room temperature.

Method To Make The Samosas

After the dough has rested for some time, knead it lightly to make it smooth. Divide this dough in 12 small balls and roll them properly. With the help of rolling pin, flatten the balls about 5 inches in diameter and cut it along the center so that you have two semicircles from each flattened ball. Take one of the semicircles and apply a drop or two of water along its sides and make a cone. Press the sides so that it forms a perfect cone and is totally sealed.

Fill this cone with about 1 or 2 teaspoons of green peas stuffing and with the help of thumb press the stuffing to the  edge of the cone. Now finally seal the cone at the end to give it  a triangular shape. Pinch the seal firmly so that there is no  space for the oil to enter in, while frying. Fill the remaining  samosas similarly.

Now take a deep bottom pan and pour enough oil to deep fry  the samosas. Once the oil is hot enough, put a small piece of  dough, it should rise to the surface slowly while making a  sizzling sound. This is the perfect temperature of oil to fry the samosas. Put a few samosas and fry till it is golden brown on both sides. Simmer the gas flame if the oil seems too hot. Be careful, it shouldn’t burn. Remove the samosas from the oil, after around 7 to 8 minutes on a paper towel. Once excess oil is absorbed, serve hot hot cocktail samosas with tamarind dip.
